  • The Lake District is a wonder of the world and although the weather was against us this year we stayed in Smithy Cottage which was very cosy which we couldn't fault in any way. Highly recommended. Located within easy access to Keswick.

  • On the whole a very enjoyable experience. The cottage is very quaint, like something out of a movie (Hagrids or the hobbit) I particularly enjoyed the log burning stove which we used almost every day and the dogs loved to lay in front of it soaking up the warmth.

  • The cottage was warm and cosy and very well equipped. We had everything that we needed for an enjoyable and relaxing break. The Kings Arms is only a short walk away and offers lovely food and an excellent service if you choose not to cook. The property is ideally located to take in everything that the lakes and surrounding areas has to offer. We had a great stay and will definitely be back - big thank you to all!!!

  • Lovely cottage with everything needed inside. Beds were so comfy. Cottage was extremely clean. Ideal location to get around to areas for walks. Log burner is ideal for this time of year. Wish we had booked longer than the 3 days. Only 1 downside and its nothing the owners can help. There is no phone signal in the village, so we couldn't get incoming calls or outgoing calls. I would 100% recommend the cottage and go back again with my kids.

  • I would definitely recommend Smithy cottage to anyone. It's comfortable,clean, well equipped and has been thoughtfully well provided for you're needs. It's a great spot with the A66 and M6 being not far away if you want to venture off anywhere sightseeing. My wife and I wanted for nothing. It is in a quiet and pleasant location also. We had a lovely week's break there and would definitely love to use Smithy cottage again. Thank you to the owners. Ten out of ten for us.

  • We had a comfortable weeks stay at Smithy cottage. It is in an ideal situation for visiting Keswick, Carlisle, Ullswater, and is only a couple of miles from Penrith for shopping. We can thoroughly recommend the pub in Stainton, but would recommend booking on Friday/Saturday for food. Street parking outside the cottage wasn’t really an issue as the road is very quiet. The weather was slightly disappointing, but we managed not to get soaked. We visited Lowther castle, Aira Force, walked from Dalemain to Dacre, to name but a few places!

  • Location good for touring Northern lakes area. Had a very enjoyable week. Very friendly and quiet village. The only downsides for us was the bed quilts were too warm and the pillows too soft.

  • This is a delightful little cottage set in a small pleasant village accessed easily from Junction 40 M6. Nearest shops are at Penrith about a 10 minute drive away but there is a pub in the village. The cottage was very clean and has everything to make the stay like a home from home. The bed was very comfortable and property has a small but adequately furnished kitchen with electric oven and hob and a microwave. Contained courtyard style garden which was perfect for our four legged friend. Great location for exploring Ullswater and Keswick and the lovely Aira Force Waterfalls. We had a fantastic week here and would definitely book again.

  • Smithy Cottage is compact and charming. Although Stainton is quiet, it is easily accessible and suited our plans perfectly. A very enjoyable few days.
